This gauge is strongly recommended by the jack plate manufacturers and the outboard engine manufacturers.
If you plan to install an adjustable jack plate, you need to be able to monitor the engine’s cooling water pressure. It is possible to burn out an engine due to lack of cooling water pressure if you raise the engine too high for the water pick-up to function properly.
